I’m nervous about the marathon and my upcoming challenge…but to be honest? I’m more nervous about feeling sick afterwards and how in the world I’m going to schlep myself back to the airport following the race. I’m flying into Minneapolis St Paul, then it’s 2hrs 40 min to Duluth. That’ll be easy today. However, tomorrow, driving 150 miles may take as much determination as the race itself. I get sick after marathons. Period. No matter how fast or how slow I run. The faster, the sicker. I get nauseous, migrainy, and just need to sleep or be in the fetal position. I should be finishing the race around 11:15 am and I have to drive to MSP, 150 miles, drop off a rental car, and make a 7:20 pm flight. Not much time to rest when I consider taking the race transportation to my dorm room, showering, etc.
For the first time though, I am armed.I met with my Dr right before I left. I am going to run armed with my migraine meds and a brand new prescription for anti-nausea meds equivalent to Zofran. Upon crossing the finish, it’ll be the first thing I do. My doctor agreed that I have to attack it early, before “it” eve sets in. So that’s what I’m going to try. I am hoping this is my fix. It stinks to complete a race of any distance and instead of celebrating, I’m fighting agony and wishing it was bedtime. We’ll see how it goes!
Gotta fly,
Caryn
