Let’s try opposites therapy. I’m switching it up out of frustration.
~Run harder and longer.
~Heat instead of ice.
~Take that stupid pad off when I’m not running.
~Shoot myself in the foot. (Perhaps that’s what all of the above is doing?)
I can’t even remember what my last posts said about my foot and I’m too sick of it to look back to see where I was at. I was feeling bad in early December, then good in mid-December after getting the pad to wear on my arch. Then the day I flew to Ragnar, had some trouble. As soon as I started to run, I was FINE! Now I’m starting to have “the sensations” again.
The sensations? Like a hot/cold, icy hot feeling all over my foot, mostly the whole bottom, I guess. Like I just pulled it out of a vat of Ben Gay. And sometimes, the scary sometimes, I get a very tight feeling in my heel. In one very tiny, specific spot, that feels like it’ll rip to shreds if I push it.
So maybe it won’t get worse if I run? What are the chances? (Don’t answer that.). Now I’m extra super frustrated. I thought for sure, back in August, that this would take a while but I never imagined this. I’ve taken months off. I’ve iced, stretched, heated, splinted, taken it easy religiously to no avail. And the part that just burns me is now my Boston training is being impacted in a big way. If I make it there, it’ll be a tough run as I’m not exactly ramping up right now. That’s if I make it. Which I may not. This would be my (lucky) 7th Boston, 6th in a row. I wanted 7 in a row, darnit! We’ll see. Certainly not booking a flight anytime soon.
Here’s the fun 7- mile tempo I tried out today for fun, despite the foot. I had no pain while running (except the icy hot) and now no “new” pain 8 hours later. I’m heating for the third time today and have stretched a bunch.
0.2 – 7:56
Mile 1- 7.29
Mile 2- 7:07
Mile 3- 7:09
Mile 4- 7:13
Mile 5- 7:15
Mile 6- 7:17
Mile 7- 7:21
Last 1.2-~8:15 pace
No too bad i guess considering I’m currently not eating carbs (“very low net carbs, adequate protein”) to undo the holiday trauma. I’d have liked 4-7 to be closer to 7:10 but whatever. They were false flat uphill. I just did that run (a little shorter) a few weeks ago sub-7:00 so I know I got it in me.
Foot feels fine so far tonight, despite the icy hot feeling earlier that is gone right now. I wonder what tomorrow will bring? Hopefully a call from Dr. Peebles. I left him a message today. I think an MRI is in order at this point. I am really thinking this isn’t plantar fasciitis, but some type of nerve damage perhaps initially caused by PF or some sort of tear? Have no idea of any of that would show up on a scan.
Wish I could a Butterfinger,
C.
